Diocesan Council approves Pentecost Offering for Hispanic Ministry at St. Michael & All Angels, Portland

Because of the diocesan transition, no requests for proposals for the Pentecost Offering have been solicited. However, at its April 25th meeting, the Diocesan Council decided that the proceeds from this year’s Pentecost Offering (May 11) would be forwarded to the parish of St. Michael & All Angels in Portland to sustain and enhance Hispanic ministry there through the hiring of a half-time priest for a growing and thriving congregation.

St. Michael & All Angels has committed to funding half of the salary and benefits for a half-time bilingual, bicultural priest for liturgical functions, Christian formation, and pastoral care for this growing congregation currently numbering more than 80 souls. In addition, Council will match the amount raised (up to $7,500) and forward the combined total to this ministry initiative.

For more information, contact Deirdre Steinberg, diocesan communications director, at 971-204-4108 or deirdres@diocese-oregon.org. A PDF for church newsletters is available here.

Diocesan Council asks that we give generously to this ministry. There are a limited number of Pentecost Offering envelopes available to congregations from the diocesan office. If you need envelopes, e-mail Janice Lusk at janicel@diocese-oregon.org and state the number of envelopes your congregation would like to receive in the mail. Please make your requests by May 1. In future years it is anticipated that we will return to solicitation of grant requests for the Pentecost Offering and allocation of that offering to one or more requesting congregations.
