Calvary Episcopal Church, Seaside United Methodist Church, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, all of Seaside, will offer a service of Holy Communion on the beach just south of the turn-around at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2009. Calamity Jazz, a Dixieland Jazz band based in Eugene, will be offering music before and during the service.
The service was initially offered by Calvary Church in 2000 in conjunction with the city's Fourth of July festivities as a gift to the community. It has been offered annually ever since. In 2007, for the first time, the service was co-sponsored ecumenically.
Said the Rev. David Sweeney, Rector of Calvary: "We always look forward to this wonderful celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the beach, surrounded by so much of the beauty of creation. It’s particularly exciting to have the participation of our ecumenical partners. Our original inspiration continues to guide us; we offer the service as a gift to the community and to summer visitors. Because it’s a little later in the month, the weather may be a bit more cooperative than last year, when it was a little cold and stormy. But in any weather, it’s a joy to share this time on the beach with our brothers and sisters from the Seaside community and beyond"
The service is offered on the beach just south of the Trendwest complex, near Avenue A. In case of inclement weather, the churches will have the services in their buildings. |
