Do you want to help support the mission and ministry of the Diocese of Oregon? Should you or someone in the Diocese you know help shape the future of The Episcopal Church in Western Oregon? Who is at the table matters when decisions are being made.

Please stand for election or nominate someone to stand for election for one of the following bodies:

Standing Committee

One clergy for a four-year term
One layperson for a four-year term

One clergy for a two-year term (to fulfill a vacancy)

The Standing Committee advises the Bishop and gives consent in matters of the disposition of property, ecclesiastical discipline, the election and consecration of bishops, and in the matter of candidates for ordained ministry. The Standing Committee meets online on the first Thursday of the month in the morning. The Standing Committee, Board of Trustees, and Diocesan Council meet together in person three times a year.

The Board of Trustees act within bounds set by the Bishop, the Convention of the Diocese of Oregon, and the Standing Committee to steward the funds and property entrusted to the diocese. The Finance Committee of the diocese, appointed by the Board of Trustees, conducts an ongoing review of all financial transactions in the diocese. The Board of Trustees meets online on the last Thursday of the month in the afternoon. The Board of Trustees, Standing Committee, and Diocesan Council meet together in person three times a year. 

Diocesan Council

The Diocesan Council oversees the creation of a budget each year and has the authority to create and prescribe the duties of program ministries and committees in support of the mission of the Church in the diocese. Council members occasionally visit congregations and convocations throughout the diocese. The Diocesan Council meets quarterly online on Saturdays throughout the year. The Diocesan Council, Standing Committee, and Board of Trustees meet together in person three times a year.  

Trinity Cathedral Chapter

One person (clergy or lay) for a three-year term

The Trinity Cathedral Chapter facilitates communication between the diocese and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, to seek alignment between the cathedral and diocesan vision, and to ascertain ways in which the cathedral congregation and other congregations of the diocese may relate in positive and helpful ways. The Trinity Cathedral Chapter includes members from Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and three individuals elected from the diocese. Trinity Cathedral Chapter meets three times a year in Portland.

Deputies to the 81st General Convention in 2024

Eight clergy for a three-year term (four deputies and four alternative deputies)
Eight laypersons for a three-year term (four deputies and four alternative deputies)

The General Convention is the primary governing body for The Episcopal Church, adopting policies and programs for the church, and has the authority to amend the constitution, canons, and prayerbook. The 81st General Convention will be held in July 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky. Deputies from the Diocese of Oregon must not only attend and participate in General Convention, but prepare with fellow deputies in the preceding years. Deputies may also be assigned to serve on legislative committees, which would require additional work. Click here (y en Español) to see the position description for more information. 


Training Requirements

All clergy and lay leaders elected to serve in leadership in the Diocese of Oregon are expected to be current in, or completed within one year of their election, the following trainings: 

  •  Safe Church, Safe Communities(offered online for free, must be renewed every three years)
  • Dismantling Racism (offered several times per year; new offerings will be communicated beginning in late summer; must be renewed every 10 years).

El Comité Permanente se reúne en línea por la mañana el Primer Jueves de cada mes. El Comité Permanente, El Consejo de Fideicomiso y el Consejo Diocesano se reúnen juntos tres veces al año.

El Consejo de Fideicomiso es un organismo que toma decisiones dentro de los límites establecidos por el Obispo, la Convención y el Comité Permanente, para administrar los fondos y bienes confiados a la diócesis. El Comité de Finanzas de la Diócesis, designado por el Consejo de Fideicomiso, realiza una revisión continua de todas las transacciones financieras en la diócesis. El Consejo de Fideicomiso se reúne en línea por la tarde el último Jueves de cada mes. El Consejo de Fideicomiso, el Comité Permanente y el Consejo Diocesano se reúnen juntos tres veces al año.

El Consejo Diocesano este organismo supervisa la creación del presupuesto Diocesano Anual y tiene la autoridad para crear y prescribir los deberes de los ministerios y comités de programas para el apoyo de la misión de la Iglesia en la diócesis. Los miembros del consejo visitan a las congregaciones. El Consejo Diocesano se reúne en línea los sábados, cada tres meses durante el año El Consejo Diocesano, el Comité Permanente y El Consejo de Fideicomiso se reúnen juntos tres veces al año.

El Capítulo de la Catedral de la Trinidad

El Capítulo de la Catedral de la Trinidad este organismo incluye una persona de la diócesis elegida El Capítulo de la Catedral de la Trinidad facilita la comunicación entre la diócesis y la Catedral Episcopal de la Trinidad, para buscar una uniformidad entre la catedral y la visión diocesana, y para determinar las formas en que la congregación de la catedral y otras congregaciones de la diócesis pueden relacionarse de manera positiva y útil. El Capítulo de la Catedral de la Trinidad incluye miembros de la Catedral Episcopal de la Trinidad y tres personas elegidas de la diócesis. El Capítulo de la Catedral de la Trinidad se reúne tres veces al año en Portland.

Diputados a la 81.ª Convención General en 2024

La Convención General es el principal órgano de gobierno de la Iglesia Episcopal, adopta pólizas y programas para la iglesia y tiene la autoridad para enmendar la constitución, los cánones y el libro de oración. La 81ª Convención General se llevará a cabo en Julio del 2024 en Louisville, Kentucky. Los diputados de la Diócesis de Oregón no solo deben asistir y participar en la Convención General, sino también prepararse con sus compañeros diputados de los años anteriores. También se pueden asignar diputados para servir en comités legislativos, lo que requeriría trabajo adicional. Requisitos de formación

Se espera que todos los líderes del clero y laicos, elegidos para servir en el liderazgo en la Diócesis de Oregon, estén al día o que terminen durante el primer año de su elección, las siguientes capacitaciones:

  • Salvaguardando a los Hijos de Dios y Salvaguardando al Pueblo de Dios: (ambos se ofrecen en línea, de forma gratuita, deben renovarse cada tres años).
  • Desmantelando el racismo (ofrecido varias veces al año; al final del verano se anunciarán nuevas oportunidades para tomarlo; debe ser renovado cada 10 años).
