2004 Resolutions

Resolutions Adopted by the 116th Annual Diocese of Oregon Convention

There were no resolutions submitted prior to convention, but four resolutions were developed on the floor after delegates heard Bishop Itty’s address and in response to elements in that address. Resolutions #1, 2, and 4 passed. Resolution #3, Creating a commission of Multicultural Ministry, was referred back to Diocesan Council for further attention.

Resolution #1: Reclaiming the Great Commission (passed)

Resolved: That the 116th annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon affirms and establishes as the focus of our diocesan life the fundamental themes of Christian Discipleship, Mission, and Evangelism, as we experience the renewal and transformational power of the Gospel.

And be it further

Resolved: That this convention accepts as its own the priorities embodied in the present Triennial Budget of the Episcopal Church, USA, namely ministry focused on:

• Children, Youth, and Young Adults,

• Promoting Reconciliation and Evangelism among ourselves and with others,

• Congregational Transformation and Spiritual Renewal,

• Encouraging Ministries of Peace arid Justice,

• Partnerships in Ministry at all levels from local to international.

And be it further

Resolved: That this convention charges the Diocesan Council to develop a strategic plan, establishing measurable goals and mechanisms to serve the priorities established above. In so doing, Council will seek a broad-based consensus by which existing structures and programs might be changed or dropped and new ones implemented as may be warranted. Council will offer a report (or interim report) on this strategic plan to the 117th Annual Convention.

Resolution # 2: Renewal of Congregational Ministries (passed)

Resolved: That this 116th annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon encourages the congregations of the Diocese to pray and work for the renewal of their own ministries, including the adoption (or reaffirmation) of one evangelism program, tool, or resource, employing its use during the coming year.

Resolution # 4: Environment —Stewardship of water (passed)
Resolved: That this 116th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon challenges every Episcopalian of the diocese to adopt at least one water conservation measure during the coming year.

And be it further

Resolved: That the Environmental Commission be encouraged to utilize all available means to disseminate information about water-saving measures and the worldwide water crisis and make available educational materials to assist the diocese in living out this resolution.
