“The Diocesan Convention Is …

“The Diocesan Convention is the body in which the legislative power of the Diocese is vested.” (Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Oregon, Article 5.1)

The Convention:

  • With the leadership of the Bishop, helps to discern the vision toward which God is drawing the Diocese;
  • Articulates and communicates the vision and facilitates the means to convert the vision to mission;
  • Approves a budget to carry out the mission.

The diocese has been given the resources needed to do the job God has called it to do. Leaders identify and allocate these resources, enabling the Church to carry out its mission. They also lead the diocese in celebrating and giving thanks for these resources.”

The Diocesan Convention Delegate Is …

The Diocesan Convention delegate is a Communicant and worshiper in the parish or mission congregation, is at least 16 years of age, has been enrolled in the parish or

  • The Diocesan Convention delegate is a Communicant and worshiper in the parish or mission congregation, is at least 16 years of age, has been enrolled in the parish or mission congregation register for six months immediately preceding their election, and has communicated in the parish or mission congregation during the year preceding the appointment. (Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Oregon, Canon 1.3.1). The Convention delegate is committed to the priorities of Christian discipleship, evangelism and mission.
  • Convention delegates are elected and certified by congregations by March 1 each year to represent the congregation at Convention. (Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Oregon, Canon 1.3.1).

The Diocesan Convention Delegate Does …

  • Convention delegates attend the meetings of the Convocation, in which the mission and ministry of the Convocation and Convention and the budget for the diocese are discussed. (Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Oregon, Canon 3.5.5a). It is particularly important to note that the discussion on the formation of the budget of the Diocese takes place at these meetings, in hopes that the budget document that arrives on the Convention floor has been reviewed and discussed in advance by delegates.
  • Convention delegates have voice and vote at the meeting of the Convention.
