All Episcopalians Urged to Comment by June 4, 2007
At their meeting in March 2006, the Joint Standing Committee of the Anglican Consultative Council and of the Primates’ Meeting considered how the proposal in §117-120 of the Windsor Report for an Anglican Covenant could be carried forward.
They commended the paper “Towards an Anglican Covenant”, which had been presented to them as basis for discussion and reflection in the Communion, and requested that the Secretary General, in consultation with the Archbishop of Canterbury, should move to the appointment of a Task Group to work on the proposal.
The Presiding Offices of the Episcopal Church, the Most Rev'd Katharine Jeffers Schori, presiding bishop, and Dr. Bonnie Anderson, president of the House of Deputies, appointed an ad hoc committee of Executive Council to develop and distribute a study guide to the Draft Anglican Covenant. This study guide is now available online at: www.episcopalchurch.org/gc.htm in English, Spanish and French. To read the Draft Anglican Covenant in its entirety go to: http://www.anglicancommunion.org/commission/covenant/index.cfm, where it is also available in English, Spanish and French.
All Episcopalians, including deputies to General Convention, bishops, members of committees, commissions, agencies and boards of the General Convention, as well as standing committees of dioceses are encouraged to send their responses to: Response to the Draft Anglican Covenant, Offices of the General Convention, The Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Avenue, New York, NY, 10017, by June 4, 2007. The Executive Council will then use these materials to inform its response to the Draft Covenant, which will be prepared by its October 2007 meeting.
