March 24 - May 11; Registration Deadline: March 21, 2008
How do we work in various ethnic communities to help young people participate with energy and dedication in the life of the church and the world? This course is designed for youth ministry practitioners (volunteers and paid staff) in congregations that are primarily non-European-American (monocultural or multicultural). The class will look at your youth ministry in the context of your congregation, other institutions, and the surrounding community. Using a case study approach where you bring your own experiences and skills into our conversation, we will consider the intersections of gospel, race, class, gender, and culture, and help create for each other concrete strategies to invite youth into a life of discipleship.
Thom Chu (B.A. in urban studies, Columbia University) has served on the Presiding Bishop’s staff since 1989.
