Oregon Episcopal School is offering children’s music camps ranging from a boys choir to guitar music of the Beatles. The camps are taught by OES music faculty and professional instructors, and private lessons also are available.

In the Boys Chorister Camp, OES instructors Adam Steele and Sue Jensen will teach vocal and choral techniques to boys in grades two through seven. The boys will sing great sacred and secular musical literature.

Lewis & Clark College adjunct professor Allen Matthews will instruct a camp called “Beginning Guitar & Music of the Beatles.”  The class for children in grades three to 12, will introduce students to fundamental classical techniques, notation, solo and ensemble performance and interpretation. It is geared for complete beginners as well as players who learned to play with a pick and want to learn to play with their fingers in the classical style.

Two camps will concentrate on playing string music of Italy. In the beginners camp, for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, OES violin teacher Neil Hollister will teach how to play the violin and will use the music of Italy to explore string techniques, music theory, and music appreciation. In the camp for students in grades six through 12, the daily schedule includes string technique, ensemble rehearsals, sectionals, and chamber music coaching.  It will be taught by OES strings teacher Nelly Kovalev and professional bassist Dan Presley, who is on the adjunct music faculty for Marylhurst University.

A music performance class for grades four through eight will be taught by Margaret Harris, who will explore a variety of techniques for preparing musical performances. Private lessons will be offered in jazz bass, cello, viol da gamba, drums and percussion, classical guitar, organ & harpsichord, piano, cello and trombone.

Additional information about the camps can be found on the Oregon Episcopal School website at http://www.oes.edu/Summer/lessons.htm or by calling Summer Programs Director Joan Lowe at 503-768-3145.
