Faculty Position in New Testament
The Church Divinity School of the Pacific seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track junior faculty position in New Testament to begin 1 July 2007. The instructor will teach an introduction to New Testament and an intermediate New Testament course, as well as electives. It is assumed that the instructor will also participate in the teaching of biblical Greek with other instructors from the Graduate Theological Union. Candidates should be prepared to teach within the ecumenical setting of the GTU at both the M.Div. and Ph.D. levels of instruction. We seek a scholar who bridges the line between the academy and the church, and a teacher who can engage students in the task of relating biblical studies to Christian life and ministry.
Applicants should hold the Ph.D. degree or its equivalent. They should be familiar with the Anglican tradition and conversant with the life of the Episcopal Church. Demonstrated interest and ability in original theological thought, in contemporary studies in biblical hermeneutics, and in writing are important. Christian commitment and practice, accessibility to students, a concern for professional theological education, and the capacity to work in a collegial style are important assets.
Candidates should possess an integrated understanding of the different aspects of theological education, and be willing and able to work with colleagues in all aspects of graduate professional theological education, including continuing education, often on an ecumenical basis.
The Church Divinity School seeks to continue to diversify its faculty. Candidates will be considered to be additionally qualified if their appointment would add diversity and enrichment to the life of the school.
Review of applications will begin October 1, 2006 and will continue until the position is filled. Names of candidates or direct applications (including curriculum vitae and the names and contact information for three references) should be sent to Linda L. Clader, Dean of Academic Affairs, Church Divinity School of the Pacific, 2451 Ridge Rd., Berkeley, CA 94709-1217 (e-mail: Lclader@cdsp.edu).
