| Robert Burton, rector of St. Paul, Salem and his wife, Anne (from left) present a check for $46,800 in past unpaid DPA (Diocesan Program Assessment) to Jonathan Weldon, canon to the ordinary and Lanny Collins, canon for finance and administration, before the end of 2006. St. Paul's vestry made it a priority to make final payment of their DPA covenant, which funds the mission work of the wider church. Said Burton: “I think the ‘Holy Conversations’ work that has been taking place made the vestry realize that we must be proactive and fulfill our covenant to contribute our fair share toward the funding of the mission work of the Episcopal Church.” In conjunction with the catch-up reimbursement check, St. Paul’s has initiated a vigorous stewardship program, including a series of church discussions on “Why I Give,” presented by congregants who tithe or otherwise make significant gifts to the church. |
