The mission of the Friends of Elk Rock Garden is to preserve, protect, and perpetuate the garden located at the Headquarters of the Diocese of Oregon.  During our first ten years the Friends devoted time and finances to preserving and revitalizing the garden.  We discovered early on that the dues paid by our loyal members enabled us to nearly double the budget for the garden.  That had allowed us not only to maintain the garden at an acceptable level, but to set a higher standard.  Everywhere you look, progress made possible by the support of our Friends is apparent.

As we move into our second decade we will continue our work to preserve the garden, but changes in the neighborhood have alerted us to the pressing need now to protect the garden.  The sale of the adjacent property along Highway 43 threatens the serene nature of the garden with the encroachment of large homes on “view lots.”  The Friends’ Board and the Carman Committee, which manages the garden, are joining forces with the Bishop to mitigate the effects of the expected new building above us.  We need the continued support of all of our old Friends, and we need to recruit new Friends to insure that the integrity of the garden is safeguarded.

Please join us with your tax-exempt gift to keep Elk Rock Garden the gem we all love.  Then please come often to enjoy the fruits of your generosity.  Checks can be made payable to:  Friends of Elk Rock Garden, P.O. Box 69244, Portland, OR  97239
