A new webpage for Camp & Retreat Ministries is now online and full of information. 2008 Camp Scholarships Announced!

I am happy to announce that the Board of Trustees has approved $5000 in camp scholarship funds to be used within the diocese!  Fifty $100 camp scholarships have been established to kick off the 2008 camping season.

How to Apply:  Scholarship Application Forms will be made available to all churches within the diocese.  The form is available online at www.diocese-oregon.org/camp-retreat.  Hard copies can be mailed by notifying Beth.  Families or individuals needing scholarship funds must:

  • Pay the initial $50 camp deposit (make check payable to:  Conference Treasurer)
  • Complete a Scholarship Application form and Camp Registration Form (also attached to this message)
  • Submit completed paperwork to their church office with a check for the initial $50 camp deposit attached.
  • If the local church is providing additional scholarship funds, this is to be notated on the application form and check for the additional amount included. (also made payable to:  Conference Treasurer)
  • Clergy or youth leader must review the application and approve
  • Completed application packets are to be sent to Beth Dieker, Camp Coordinator, 11800 SW Military Lane, Portland, OR  97219-8436

Scholarship funds will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.  Please keep in mind the “Early Bird” deadline for reduced camp costs is quickly approaching!

Is There a Camp Just for the Kids in Our Diocese?

That seems to be the question of the week!  I have received many requests for an Episcopal kids’ camp so that kids in the diocese can get to know each other better and learn more about our Episcopal traditions and heritage.  I have contacted Camp Magruder, Suttle Lake Camp and Camp Latgawa and asked them to scrutinize their summer schedules to see if we can get a 4-7 day  Episcopal Camp scheduled in towards the end of the summer.

That being said, a camp like this can only happen with the help of many Episcopal volunteers and the registration of lots of Episcopal kids.  If you think this is a great idea and would like to be a part of it, please let me know as soon as possible.

p.s.:  I will be out of the office April 2nd-8th.    I will be back in the office on April 9th and will respond to any questions or requests as quickly as I can.

 Blessings & Peace,

Beth Dieker
