Walkabouts
In order to assist diocesan members in getting better acquainted with each nominee for bishop, a series of five “walkabouts”* have been scheduled throughout the Diocese from Monday-Friday, October 26-30. The walkabouts are designed to let voting delegates to the electing convention and other interested parties meet the nominees and ask them questions. The walkabouts will be scattered geographically throughout the diocese, at convenient parish sites. One of the walkabouts will take place at the clergy conference.
*"Walkabouts” are originally identified with Australian Aborigines who would spend six months in the wilderness in their adolescence as they journeyed to adulthood. Modern Christian spirituality has identified “Walkabouts” as a spiritual journey of discernment.

Questions for Nominees
Your Transition Team is following the guidelines established by the Episcopal Church in its handling of questions directed to the Nominees for Bishop. That structure dictates that the only appropriate forum and opportunity to ask questions of the Nominees will be during the walkabout. We want all delegates and other interested parties to hear all the responses, so we ask you respect the nominees and the process and not contact them individually. Consider this: no nominee should be distracted from his or her own professional responsibilities by issues and individuals here before the appointed time and place. They will be here and able to address your questions and concerns very soon.
Walkabouts are the opportunity to ask a question where all questions will be directed through a trained moderator. We would encourage you to think a question through in the Appreciative Inquiry format. We request that questions be submitted by 6:00pm on the date of the walkabout. If you need help with the phrasing of the question please contact a trained moderator from your convocation. Thanks so much for your interest and attention to this!

Moderators
Moderators selected from each Convocation will collect, collate, rephrase (as necessary) and present (ask) questions to the nominees at each of the walkabout sessions. The Rev. Rob Voyle, our consultant, will help train these moderators in ways to extract the essence of the questions coming from the gathered participants (delegates, alternates and other interested parties), and to elicit the fullest possible answers from the nominees. Moderators should be people who possess good communication skills, people who are willing and able to attend the training (yet to be announced), and people who can remain reasonably objective during the discharge of this duty. Download a pdf of the moderator request letter to the Presidents and Deans of Diocese of Oregon Convocations.
Feedback
The members of the Bishop Transition Committee would love to hear from you. If you have a question, suggestion or concern, please email the Rev. Scott Dolph. Also, if you have questions for the candidates, please do not hesitate to contact us with those questions and we will do our best to make sure they get into the hands of the moderators at each walkabout site.
