Camp & Retreat News - July 11, 2008

Focus on Wallowa Lake Camp
LOCATION: In northeastern Oregon, at the south end of Wallowa Lake, on Hwy 82 south of the cities of Enterprise and Joseph. Easily accessible from most of eastern Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho

SETTING: Wallowa Lake Camp is located near the south end of a large, pristine, glacial lake at the foot of the Wallowa Mountains and the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area. Towering mountains and evergreens, a river, and the nearby lake provide a peaceful, picturesque setting.

FEATURES: Available activities on-site include volleyball, basketball, badminton, baseball, horseshoes, campfires, crafts, outdoor education, and a ropes course. There are both inside and outside environments for worship, personal meditation, and group discussions. Horseback riding is one of our most popular summer camps. Set within a prime resort area, nearby activities include boating, windsurfing, fishing, swimming, a tramway to superb high mountain views, wildlife and wildflower photography, llama treks, horseback rides, backcountry hiking and camping, whitewater rafting, and scenic air flights. Places to visit include antique shops, art galleries, bronze foundry tours, Nez Perce historic sites, and Hells Canyon.

CHECKED OUT THE YURTS: I have been told, on several occasions, about the very nice Yurts available at Wallowa Lake Camp. Since I was at this camp last week, I decided to see if I had been told the truth. I am happy to report the yurts are quite lovely! They are designed for adult & family living and include private bath, kitchenette, double or queen beds plus bunks for children. Two bedroom yurts are also available with each bedroom containing a queen bed and one upper bunk. There are outside decks with chairs to relax in the sunshine and many are wheelchair accessible.

GREAT PLACE FOR: Family camping and family reunions, church retreats and, of course, riding horses!
