Camp & Retreat Ministries

Joining God in a shared mission is what distinguishes our Camp & Retreat Program from other types of camps and conference center programs. It is our heart – our unique gift to the wider society that God has given us to share. Camp & Retreat ministries consistently draw persons into deeper connection with God and offers prime faith formation experiences. In the midst of God’s creation, our environments of Christian hospitality and learning open people’s souls and hearts in unparalleled ways.

In the book Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom, an 82 year old rabbi from Albom’s hometown asks him to deliver his eulogy. Feeling unworthy, Albom insists on knowing the man better. During one of their conversations, Alboms asks the rabbi if he had been divinely inspired to become a rabbi. The rabbi discloses that he had really wanted to become a religious teacher and had failed the first time he attended seminary. After being discharged from the school, he took a job as a summer camp counselor. One of the campers was particularly difficult and the rabbi spent a good deal of his time encouraging him, listening to his problems and smiling patiently. The camper found a kindred soul with his counselor and by the end of camp, the kid had changed. A few weeks later the rabbi received a phone call from the father of the camper, thanking him for the changes that had occurred in his son. The father encouraged the rabbi to try seminary again and said he would help him through. This time the rabbi excelled in seminary and was ordained. Albom’s summation of this story was: “The most inspirational man I knew reached his potential by helping a child reach his.”
