The Diocesan Evangelism Commission - Missions and Goals 2006

The mission of the Diocesan Evangelism Commission is to provide resources to support and encourage our people of our diocese as they do evangelism.

Our view of Evangelism is three-fold.

First, to get individuals to come through the front door of our churches. This should cause us to look at who we are and how others see us. It can involve everything from the mundane to the spiritual, everything from rummage sales to spiritual pilgrimages.

Secondly, the people of our congregations need to welcome, invite and encourage visitors to become part of the church community and family.

Finally, we need to learn how to go out and invite others. And we need to continually invite others to visit our congregations. I believe the best example of evangelism in the Gospel story is Philip saying to Nathanael, "Come and see."

It is our goal to continue the building of our Commission both in membership and activity, by assisting congregations as they identify ways to share the Gospel and by sharing the resources that others are using. We will do this through contact with individual congregations, through compiling and sharing examples of actual programs that real Episcopal Churches are effectively using to do evangelism and to grow, and through workshops and presentations.
