SAFE Church Trainings provides awareness in the areas of sexual conduct and sexual abuse issues for both employees and volunteers working within the congregations and organizations of the Diocese of Oregon.

We currently offer two different programs that have been developed by the Church Pension Group:

  • Safeguarding God’s Children
  • Safeguarding God’s People: Preventing Sexual Harassment and Sexual Exploitation

Who should attend and why?

In striving to live out our Baptismal Covenant we are called to respect the dignity of every human being. As the people of God in the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon we are committed to the safety of all God’s people. This recommendation outlines who is required to attend which of the training sessions.

How do I register for SAFE Church?

Click here to go to the online registration. After you have made certain you have supplied all of the requested information, submit your registration by clicking on the “Submit” button. You should receive a response saying your registration has been submitted. You will not receive further confirmation.

Please Note: The deadline for registration is 12pm on the Tuesday preceding the scheduled training. Additional registrations will be accepted, but trainings that do not have at least 12 people pre-registered by 12pm on the Tuesday before the scheduled trainings will be cancelled. If we have to cancel a training, those who have pre-registered will be notified of the cancellation.

If none of the currently scheduled trainings work for you, please use the training request form to give us some details about times and locations that would be convenient for you, to help us plan future trainings.

Online Renewal Training now available

Face-to-Face and Online Training: The first time anyone takes Safeguarding God’s Children or Safeguarding God’s People: Preventing Sexual Harassment and Preventing Sexual Exploitation, it is to be at a face-to-face training session led by our diocesan Safe Church Trainers. Exceptions may be granted by the Bishop to allow first time training to be completed online rather than face-to-face training. Contact the Rev. Canon Carol Sedlacek at to request an exception.

Renewals may be taken either face-to-face or online. Beginning in 2018, training must be renewed every five (5) years.

If you would like to renew your training please email The Rev. Canon Carol Sedlacek at
