Celebrating Bishop Michael Hanley’s Ministry Among Us!

Celebrating Bishop Michael Hanley’s Ministry Among Us!

For 10 years Bishop Michael and Marla Hanley have lived and ministered in the Diocese of Oregon! Bishop Michael has helped us navigate difficulties and celebrate milestones, has supported congregations and clergy, and led us to this time of his well-earned retirement. During the next few months we will celebrate the Hanleys and their time with us in several ways that everyone is encouraged to share:

  • Diocesan leaders including members of the Board of Trustees, Standing Committee, Episcopal Bishop of Oregon Foundation Board, and Diocesan Council have contributed to purchase the Hanleys a garage wine/beverage cooler that was delivered to the Hanleys in June.
  • The Celebration Subcommittee of the Diocesan Transition Committee is collecting a purse for the Bishop. Contributions should include ‘Bishop’s Purse’ on the memo line and should be sent to the Finance Office, 11800 SW Military Lane, Portland 97219 or can be brought to any of the celebration parties (below) for the Hanleys.
  • The Hanleys have requested, given their downsized home, gifts of Oregon wine or other beverages that will go into the new cooler (write notes on or attached to those bottles!), to be enjoyed over the next few years of retirement. These can be brought to any of the celebration parties (below) or to your church for delivery.
  • There are parties being planned around the Diocese to which everyone is invited to celebrate with Bishop Michael and Marla, pandemic permitting. The Sept. 17 event at the Bishop’s Close will honor the Bishop and the Bishop’s staff.
  • Announcements and invitations will be emailed to the clergy, wardens and administrators of every congregation for publication beginning in June. Save the dates for afternoon or early evening parties, and watch for details in your congregation’s publications:
    • July 19, Emmanuel, Coos Bay
    • August 22, St. Matthew’s, Eugene
    • Sept. 6, St. Francis of Assisi, Wilsonville
    • Sept. 13, St. Mark’s, Medford
    • Sept. 17, The Bishop’s Close, Portland
