Non-Residential CPSP-Accredited Chaplaincy Education Opportunity
in Western Oregon and Southwest Washington
After a very successful 2017-18 partnership providing Clinical Pastoral Education in multiple settings in the Diocese of Oregon and in SW Washington, The Academy for Formation and Mission is pleased to offer a 2018-19 unit. A new partnership of the Academy and the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP) will offer a fully CPSP-accredited, non-residential Clinical-Pastoral Education Program in the same innovative, extended format. This is designed for those who have experienced geographic or life-circumstance barriers to this training. Last year’s cohort included trainees who were able to accommodate full-time employment, graduate studies or family obligations while enrolled.
With the goal of helping trainees more effectively listen, communicate and attend to the emotional and spiritual needs of people in their care, this unit will be conducted through coursework, video conferencing/supervision, and a limited number of retreat gatherings. Supervised hours of practice in clinical settings are arranged in conjunction with the Academy for Formation and Mission (AFM) of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, and will be arranged at clinical sites in western Oregon and SW Washington. These sites may include medical facilities, parishes and social service settings.
This CPE unit is planned from mid-October 2018-May 2019. Students will be required to document completion of 300 hours of supervised chaplaincy care, which may include on-call responsibilities as assigned. Individual and group supervision will be conducted via video conference and by telephone, for a total of 100 additional hours. Credit for one full unit of CPE will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.
We invite people in the ordination process, those already serving as chaplains, clergy serving in congregations, and others seeking to be better equipped for service in their communities. To assure a high-quality experience, enrollment will be limited to eight trainees. Preference will be given to first-time applicants.
Tuition for students included in this opportunity will be paid to the Academy for Formation and Mission (AFM) of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon. Scholarship assistance is available, through a generous grant from the Episcopal Bishop of Oregon Foundation. Tuition for 2018-2019 is $600 per CPE unit for students not enrolled in the Academy for Formation and Mission in the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, $275 per CPE unit (additional) for students enrolled in other Academy coursework.
