Haydn’s “Seven Last Words of Christ”
April 7 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
“The Seven Last Words of Christ” is an orchestral work by Franz Joseph Haydn, commissioned in 1786 for the Good Friday service at Oratorio de la Santa Cueva in Cadiz, Spain. The composer adapted it for string quartet in 1796. The seven meditations on the Last Words are excerpted from all four gospels of the New Testament and interpolated for instrumental composition. Verse readings will be offered in between movements. The performance is on April 7th. String quartet members are local musicians Ron Paul, Terry Hsu, Karen Vincent and Georgienne Young. St. Paul’s Trinity Choir will sing the service of Evensong.
