Quiet Day for Advent

December 2 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

A day of prayer and reflection to help in preparing for the Festival of the Incarnation will take place at the Parish of St John the Baptist, on the campus of Oregon Episcopal School, 6300 SW Nicol Road, on Saturday, December 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Giving the meditations will be Fr James Joiner, Associate Rector at St Michael and All Angels, Portland.  About his theme he says, “In the Psalms we hear that God is ‘near to the broken-hearted’ (34:18) and that ‘the sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit.’ (51:18)  For this Advent Quiet Day, I will guide us in meditations through ways that God has used our broken hearts in scripture and in the world to plant the seeds of a new beginning.  In a time when the world presents us with many opportunities for our hearts to break over and over again, how can we face the terror and sadness before us while simultaneously expecting that a new ‘dawn form on high is breaking upon us’? (Luke 1:78)  Our time of quiet prayer, worship, and reflections will help us hold these broken pieces, and look for the in-breaking of God among us.”

The day will begin with Holy Eucharist at 8:30 am and will conclude with prayers at 3:00 pm.  All are welcome to this day and are asked to bring a sack-lunch.  Contact Fr Phillip Ayers, Chaplain at players@hevanet.com or (971) 275-2663 for any further details or inquiries.
