Vivaldi’s Festive Cantatas
December 20 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
A NORTHWEST BAROQUE MASTERWORKS PROJECT. In 1703, Vivaldi was hired by an orphanage in Venice called the Ospedale della Pietà, known for its state-sponsored musical education. Iconic works like his Gloria and Magnificat (now usually sung by mixed voiced choirs) were written for and performed by the young women who spent their lives there. Reviving this haunting experience otherwise lost to time, the works on this holiday program will be performed as intended – by a chorus, soloists, and orchestra made up entirely of women.
Magnificat, RV 610
Gloria in D major, RV 589
Featuring Portland Baroque Orchestra, Early Music Vancouver, and the Trinity Girls Choir.
