Mexico: learning and celebrating

Mexico: learning and celebrating

Grace and Peace:

I will soon be returning to Mexico for a second course of language classes at the diocesan offices in Cuernavaca. While language classes are not easy for me I am excited about returning to Mexico, to the people who work at the diocesan center and who live on the grounds of the center. I am also happy to be traveling with Deacon Marla McGarry-Lawrence and with all the others who have signed up to take classes in Cuernavaca. Perhaps in years to come some of you who are reading this note might wish to join me. Learning is good work.

The main reason for my learning Spanish is to be able to celebrate the Eucharist in the Spanish language with the Latino/Hispanic members of the Diocese of Oregon. We have some dozen congregations in the diocese that hold a Spanish service weekly and we have several communities that may well begin a service in the next few years. I believe this is holy work and I am honored to be able to be a part of it. I pray that the work flourishes.

Another reason I am glad to be going to Mexico is that Cuernavaca is a beautiful place. Last year we were blessed with trips around the town and to other interesting communities in the area. We enjoyed good food and much laughter and I know that we will be hosted well this time also. Please keep me in your prayers as I will hold you in prayer as well. God is good and life is a blessing to be savored.

In Peace,
