Dear Friends in Christ:
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Mark 15:9-10
Life is mostly about whatever we pay attention to. As we approach Palm/Passion Sunday what will you be paying attention to? For leaders in the church there is a real temptation to pay attention to the details, and truth be told, someone needs to. But if the details of bulletins and wine become the focus, what is lost? The greater story is missed.
Jesus went to Jerusalem and there he represented those with little voice, he told the people that life was lived best in solidarity with each other and that whatever flaws of the system they lived under they could join together to praise God and care for one another. While there is a good deal more to the story, (and you will all get a chance to listen with care to that story this Sunday), the core of the Christian story is that God loves the world and its people, and God sent Jesus to be among us to reveal to us a way of life which is life giving.
Life is mostly about whatever we pay attention to: Palm Sunday, Passion Sunday, the renewal of Vows for clergy, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil, Easter morning, each other, our relationships, caring for one another, and reaching out in love and concern to a world in need of healing and renewal.
What do you plan to pay attention to?
