Rest in Peace, Rise in Glory: the Rev. Jay McMurren

The Rev. Jay McMurren died at his home on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 – he was 89 years old. For 49 years, Jay served the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon with grace, poise, and wisdom.

During Jay’s many decades of service, he served as chaplain at the University of Oregon’s Campus Ministry, St. Matthew’s, Eugene, Grace Memorial, Portland, and St Paul’s, Salem. Jay also held interim positions at St. Edward’s, Silverton and St. Thomas, Dallas.

In addition to serving many of Oregon’s communities, Jay chaired the Committee for Restructuring the diocese from 1970 to 1972 and completed multiple terms as a member of the Board of Trustees, Standing Committee, and Diocesan Council. He was a consultant for the Leadership Skills Institute and a founding member, and consultant, of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission. He also served as a search consultant, led and mentored the early interim training group, and the alcohol recovery commission.  In retirement he volunteered for 19 years at Salem Hopspital.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in West Salem at 1:00 p.m., with a reception following at the Salem Convention Center. Parking at the church is somewhat limited; carpooling is encouraged.
