St. James/Santiago, Tigard Seeks Part-time Priest-in-Charge

St. James/Santiago, Tigard Seeks Part-time Priest-in-Charge

St. James/Santiago has been serving the Tigard Community for over 60 years and is seeking a part-time Priest-in-Charge. Tigard is a desirable community in the Portland Metro area that is adjacent to Lake Oswego and Beaverton and has a population of over 50,000.  The St. James facilities occupy 3.25 acres nestled next to a residential area.

Our parish is looking for a part-time Priest-in-Charge who is centered in the liturgy and tradition of the Episcopal Church and will be a preacher and worship leader, spiritual guide, teacher, theologian, administrative consultant to staff and volunteers, and a supporter of youth and parish life for the English-speaking portion of the St. James/Santiago Parish.  Our Priest-in-Charge will also coordinate with the Spanish-speaking mission priest that leads our 6:00 PM Sunday service.

St. James/Santiago is an open and welcoming congregation that is involved in our community through several programs coordinated by the Pastoral Care ministry and lay volunteers.  The parish is also committed to helping with outreach to support care organizations, individuals and families, and to help projects within the community.  Our doors are open on a weekly basis for Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon and Alateen; other organizations, such as the Girl Scouts, use the building as well.

Our Vision is a complete reconciliation with God, with one another, and with all creation.  We envision ourselves leading lives of Christ-Centered prayer, worship and love in which we are in full relationship with God, with others in our church and with our surrounding community.  We are looking for a Priest-in-Charge to be an outgoing person who connects well with people. This priest should be able to develop a strong sense of community among potential and established parish members and participate in parish activities and key ministry programs.

The successful candidate should have strong motivational skills, be willing to be visible in the community in addition to meeting the various needs of our congregation with open communication and preaching. Spanish language skills would be a big bonus but are not required. Although a half-time position now, it is hoped that the successful candidate will help transform St. James through spiritual and numerical growth so that the position becomes a full-time rector position over time.
