St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in the heart of Portland, Oregon’s Hollywood neighborhood has begun construction on a 23kW, 72 panel solar EV system that will soon generate its own clean, renewable power thanks to a funding award from Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program participants and a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon.
Construction began on September 18, 2020 and is estimated to be complete by October 12, 2020
St. Michael’s joins more than 130 organizations across Pacific Power’s service area that, since 2006, have received awards for community-based renewable projects, including solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy. This project is one of a dozen selected this year through a competitive-evaluation process.
“We’re excited to model how smaller renewable energy projects like this one can make a difference in the local community,” says the Rev. Chris Craun, Rector of St. Michael and All Angels. “By generating our own electricity, we’ll save on energy costs and that means we can dedicate more of our budget to our core missions of Latino ministries, twice a month community meals, Northeast Food bank support, and other social and outreach ministries that work to protect our environment.”
A ribbon cutting celebration with special guests is scheduled Friday, October 16, 2020 at 2:00 pm at 1704 NE 43rd Ave. All are invited to stop by and see the completion of this project.
