Statement of the Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon
On the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Dakota Access Pipe Line
October 8, 2016
The Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon stands in support of the North Dakota Council of Indian Ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota in their resolution to stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their peaceful and prayerful efforts to halt the construction of the Dakota Access Pipe Line because of its degradation of sacred sites and possible catastrophic contamination of their drinking water and irrigation projects.
The Diocesan Council invites and encourages other Episcopalians and people of goodwill to join us in these efforts. They made a commitment to find ways to be concretely involved.
