Pancakes & Piñatas

Pancakes & Piñatas

Please join the people of St. Francis of Assisi, Wilsonville at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25 in the Parish Hall.

This year we will enjoy the addition of dancers from The Balet Folklorico de Wilsonville, as well as piñatas for the kids to break open.

“Shrove Tuesday,” or “Carnival,” is the last day before Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter when we remember the time Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness. Historically, during the time of Lent, people gave up luxury items, including foods such as butter and eggs. This led to the tradition of making pancakes on the day before Lent to use up the butter and eggs. Shrove Tuesday and pancakes became perfect partners!”

Blessing of the Animals

On Sunday, October 6, St. Francis will be celebrating the feast day of our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi.

St. Francis saw in all creation–animals, plants, stars, people—the beautiful evidence of God’s handiwork. We are so honored to share in the name of this beloved saint, and we all continually strive to be worthy of his name. On this day people are invited to bring their animals to church for a personal blessing during the 8:00 am or 10:30 am service. It is both a fun, and yet very moving experience to have your little dog, cat, turtle or parakeet blessed and honored.

The open plate that day goes to the Clackamas Animal Shelter.

As part of the reception, there will be a bouncy house on the front lawn for children to play in all morning.

40th Birthday of St. Francis of Assisi, Wilsonvile

an image of the bell tower and exterior roofline of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in WilsonvilleOn September 29, St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church will be celebrating its 40th Birthday.
Our parish began with a small gathering of dedicated people, and has grown into a lovely, lively church where we find both spiritual comfort and a deep sense of loving family.

On September 29, as we remember our history of 40 years, we will revisit and reflect at three of the locations where we have met over our 40 years. That morning, for both services, we will gather as a church family at Wisdom House( our second home) for prayer and song; proceed to the Parish Hall (our third home) with prayer and song; and end up at our present sanctuary, again rejoicing!

There will be a reception in the parish hall following each service, with birthday cake.

There will be an interactive timeline on the bulletin board in the parish hall for each of you to place a note card on significant dates in your church life at St. Francis–as when you came here, when your child was baptized; when your children were married, and all other memorable times. Let’s fill it with our memories!!

We have been, and are, richly blessed at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church!
